Obituary of David Edward McKee

David Edward McKee, age 75, of Richfield, NC formerly of Canisteo, NY passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Saturday, January 20th, 2024.

Dave was born in Hornell, NY on November 21st, 1948, the 2nd of Six sons of the late Donald and Lois McKee.  He graduated from Canisteo High School Class of 1966 and had attended SUNY Brockport.  Dave married Elaine R. Wilson on September 6th, 1968.  He was the superintendent of the Canisteo Village Waste Water Treatment Plant until relocating to North Carolina in 1999.  He had worked part time sandblasting and lettering cemetery monuments for Woodburn Monuments and Brown and Powers Monument for years.  His proudest achievement as a skilled monument carver was engraving the memorial that was placed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo honoring the fallen Vietnam soldiers from the Canisteo Valley area.  

Dave loved reading, movies, music and sports.  He had a love for baseball; he enjoyed coach Grass Hoppers not to win but to teach the game and sportsmanship.  He enjoyed going to ballgames and watching them on TV.

Dave is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine R. McKee; children, Garth (Patty), Taine, and Josh (Katie) McKee; grandchildren, Jessica (Joseph) Sindone, Lisa (Michael) McKee Novak, Jorden Leahey, Brandon (Lovona Carrigan) McKee, Kinsey Leahey, Coltan Ash, Larissa Ash; Toby McKee, Grady McKee; Six great grandsons, Xavier Sindone, Weston Novak, Cyrus Sindone, Waylon Novak, Wyatt Novak and Eden Rain Phoenix; brothers; Dan (Brenda), Donald (Mary), Michael (Melissa), Barry (Kathy), and AJ (Renee) Mckee; sisters in law, Georgia Wigent and Elly Griffin; many nieces, nephews, cousins; many close and loving friends from Canisteo; as well as his many feline companions.

A memorial celebrating Dave's life will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC  20090-6011.  Memories of Dave maybe shared with his family and friends at haugheywoodzinger.com.
