Obituary of Shirley A. Salvatore

Shirley A. Salvatore, 86, of Watkins Glen, NY, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Cayuga Medical Center. She was born in Montour Falls, NY on October 12, 1935, the daughter of Frank and Dorcellia Arcangeli and graduated from Watkins Glen High School. Shirley began work right out of high school at Seneca Lodge. After marrying Len Salvatore in 1955, and starting a family, she went back to work as a teller at Marine Midland Bank and assisted in opening the new bank and trained the staff. After several years, she started work for Elmira/Watkins Glen Transit, where she spent many years as office manager and tour guide. Her last and most beloved position was as the office manager at Captain Bill's, where she spent 25 plus years greeting visitors and training staff. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling on cruises and spending time with her family and friends. Shirley was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen and a member of the St. Mary's Guild. She did catering for the Onyx Club at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Race Track and was a member of the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary, treasurer of the Italian American Festival and treasurer of Leslie School of Dance. Shirley is survived by her husband of 66 years, Leonard (Len) Salvatore; daughter, Sharon Malick; brother, Harry Arcangeli; sisters-in-law, Sue Olevnik and Eva Arcangeli; one chosen daughter, Barbara (Chris) Cook; one chosen granddaughter, Jennie Martine Scarbrough (Jason); and by many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Kristina Olevnik. She was predeceased by her father, Frank Arcangeli; mother, Dorcellia (Arcangeli) Olevnik; brothers, Francis (Sonny) Arcangeli and Robert Olevnik; in-laws, Leo and Josephine Salvatore; son-in-law, Vincent (Vince) Malick; and brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Salvatore. Shirley's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's of the Lake Church, 905 N. Decatur St., Watkins Glen. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Haughey-Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, Watkins Glen. Donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Schuyler Hospital Auxiliary.
