David W. Cherock, age 72, of Port Orange, FL formerly of Watkins Glen, NY entered unto rest on Sunday, February 28th, 2021 in Daytona Beach, FL. David was born in Watkins Glen, NY on November 22nd, 1948, the son of the late John and Grace Cherock. He was a graduate of Watkins Glen High School and Data Tech Institute in Arlington, VA. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. David married Sandra A. Menio in Watkins Glen, NY on October 25th, 1969. David worked in Information Technology and was a Fiber Optics Technician for Corning, Inc. for 28 years and Brighthouse Networks in Daytona Beach, FL for 6 years retiring in 2003/2009. He was a member and trustee for F.O.E. 4469 Eagles Club, Daytona Beach Shores, Daytona Beach. He enjoyed many years working and traveling on the road with 3 different Sprint Car Teams. He loved taking trips to the Caribbean and Italy and his pride for his Italian/American heritage was tremendous. His most treasured moments were being a close role model, advisor and mentor to his children and grandchildren. He emulated his father John by always helping people with projects such as gardening, decks, patios, painting, ect but his favorite time spent was helping the Menio Family construct and build Kookalaroc's Bar & Grill in Watkins Glen, NY and celebrating with friends there. He was loved, cherished and admired by many near and far with his infectious smile, sense of humor and all around good nature that made anyone feel welcome. This enormous loss of life for anyone that knew him will be profound and everlasting. He was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen, NY and Epiphany Catholic Church in Port Orange, FL. David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra A. (Menio) Cherock; daughters, Nicole M. (Jason Kriner) Cherock and Christy A. Cherock all of Port Orange FL; grandchildren, Gianna M. Villanueva, Alexia M. Luna and Kamaria Felder; brother, John (Betty) Cherock of Victor, NY; niece, Jennifer Cherock-Hopper; many aunts, uncles and cousins of the Cherock and Scaptura Family's. Friends and family may call from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, March 7th, 2021 at the Haughey-Wood & Zinger Funeral Home, 119 5th St., Watkins Glen, NY 14891. Those in attendance are asked to follow social distancing guidelines and to wear a face covering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately for his immediate family and friends due to restrictions. Interment with Navy Honors will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Watkins Glen, NY. In lieu of flowers, in honor of David and our veterans charitable donations may be made to a veterans organization of one's choice.
